Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor Draft Management Plan (November 2012) was prepared by Huntley Partners, Inc. under the direction of the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor Commission. The Management Plan defines the vision and guiding principles for Corridor revitalization, and recommends a Corridor boundary, programming concepts and initiatives, improvements to the public realm, a development program and an implementation framework with budget and staffing plan and approach.

The guiding principles of the plan were developed through stakeholder and community consensus. These include:

  • Create an interpretive approach to highlight the impact of Buffalo’s African American heritage on the history of Buffalo and America
  • Integrate the African American cultural history with preservation and economic development strategies
  • Restore the Corridor at urban scale, grounded in the expectation for transformation
