The Citizen Planning School assists community members with leveraging planning tools to implement sustainable change in Erie and Niagara counties from the ground up. The school is hosted by One Region Forward and the University at Buffalo’s School of Architecture and Planning.
The Citizen Planning School is hosted by One Region Forward and UB’s School of Architecture and Planning. The program provides citizens of Erie and Niagara counties with tools to increase the sustainability of their communities and ultimately, the Buffalo Niagara region at large. All participants attend issue-based lectures, have access to online tool kits, receive a Certificate of Completion, and attend a Sustainability Action Summit that celebrates the work of all program participants. Participation in the Citizen Planning School is free and open to the public.
The first in-person round of the Citizen Planning School ended on June 14, 2014, but you can still register to complete the program online this summer here.
The Citizen Planning School also offers an additional level of training called Champions for Change. Champions for Change are Citizen Planners that want to take their engagement one step further by creating a micro-plan for a sustainability project in their community, attending technical assistance hours to create this plan, and presenting it at the upcoming Sustainability Action Summit. The Champions for Change Program is a competitive, application-based program. The application period for this program has ended and we are currently not accepting any more applications.
